Henders House at Almerta Station
A Love Letter to the land, the Past and the People
Henders House is a carefully restored heritage cottage on Almerta Station, offering refined off-grid luxury at the gateway to South Australia’s iconic Flinders Ranges.
Once a weathered and forgotten building, Henders House stands today because we saw potential where others saw a ruin. What you experience now is not simply accommodation it is a resurrection, guided by respect for history, place, and story.
Proudly awarded GOLD Hosted Accommodation People Choice for Accommodation at the 2025 South Australian Tourism Awards, Henders House represents the very best of regional South Australian tourism and will be showcased nationally in March 2026.
Sleep in Quiet Luxury
Designed for couples or small groups seeking space, calm, and comfort, Henders House features two generous king bedrooms styled with premium linen and thoughtful simplicity.
Every element is intentional- soft textures, natural tones, and a sense of stillness that allows sleep to come easily and mornings to unfold slowly.
An Authentic Off-Grid Escape
Henders House operates entirely off-grid, powered by sustainable systems that tread lightly on the land while offering everything needed for a truly comfortable stay.
Inside, you’ll find a spacious bathroom, a warm and inviting living area, and a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooktops, full-size fridge, and quality appliances perfect for long lunches, slow dinners, and unhurried mornings.
This is independence without compromise.
Simple Pleasures, Beautifully Elevated

More Than a Stay
Henders House is not about renovation for renovation’s sake.
It exists because we believed memory mattered. Because we felt this place deserved to live again. Every decision was careful. Every detail considered. Every corner carries intention.
This is our love letter to the land, the past, and the people who believed it was worth saving.
We invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect—with nature, with history, and with what truly matters.

Before Hender’s House became a retreat, it was barely a shell- no windows, no doors, just cement floors and what remained of a pressed metal ceiling.
These photos capture that moment in time.
They aren’t just “before” pictures. They’re a love letter to the land, the past, and the people who believed it was worth saving. This was the beginning of something bigger—a careful restoration that respected every scar, every beam, every whisper of history.
Hender’s House isn’t just accommodation. It’s a resurrection. It stands today because we saw potential in ruin, and poured soul into every inch rebuilt.
This project was never about renovation for renovation’s sake. It’s about memory, meaning, and storytelling. It’s about making something beautiful out of what was almost forgotten—and sharing it with you.
